Setting a green tone, outlining a new computing power blueprint: ZDATA receives the 5A-level operational "Carbon-Neutral Data Center Leader" award.
On July 29th, the "2022 China Computing Power Conference," hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the People's Government of Shandong Province, opened. This is the first computing power conference held in China, aiming to showcase the latest achievements in the construction of domestic computing power infrastructure. The results of the annual "Data Center Low Carbon Level Assessment" were announced during the conference, and ZDATA Green Big Data Industry Base was honored with the "Data Center Low Carbon Level (Operational Class) 5A" certification, the highest level in this rating.
The "Data Center Green Level Assessment" is jointly conducted by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology News and Publicity Center, and the Open Data Center Committee (ODCC). It assesses the green and energy-saving levels of data centers from dimensions such as energy efficiency, energy-saving technology, green management, and green innovation. This assessment is an authoritative evaluation of the energy-saving and environmental protection level of the data center industry in China.
This award follows ZDATA's achievement last year of the industry's first "Data Center Low Carbon Level (Design Class) 5A" rating. It represents another 5A-level certification in the operational domain, showcasing the company's excellent capabilities in energy efficiency, green energy use, energy-saving and emission reduction, and low-carbon management.
Additionally, ZDATA was successfully selected for the "Excellent Case Collection of Data Center Low Carbon Level" released during this computing power conference.
Implementing a combination of energy-saving measures, setting a new benchmark for "zero carbon"
As a professional data center operator in China, ZDATA deeply understands the regional characteristics and energy consumption characteristics of data centers. The company continuously optimizes and integrates resources on the energy supply side, energy demand side, and energy storage side of data centers. To promote the low-carbon and green development of data centers, ZDATA is committed to creating a benchmark for "zero carbon" big data centers.
Energy-saving practices in power equipment
ZDATA Green Big Data Industry Base uses modular UPS to achieve efficient power conversion and purification of the power grid, meeting the operational requirements of data centers efficiently, rapidly, flexibly, and intelligently. The park and data center buildings are equipped with intelligent lighting devices, providing daily lighting according to regional usage requirements, reducing wasted lighting electricity.
Application of energy-saving cooling technology
The main data center is equipped with AHU indirect evaporative cooling devices, which can automatically switch control modes based on different weather conditions. Leveraging Datong's unique climate conditions, it extends the time of using natural cooling throughout the year, reducing the energy consumption of the cooling system. In addition, water pumps, fans, compressors, and other equipment use variable frequency drive, adjusting operating frequencies in real-time based on operational conditions for optimal energy-saving and carbon reduction.
Energy recycling
Inside the data center building, equipment such as water-source heat pumps and water-fluorine heat exchangers are set up. These use chilled water return water, refrigerants inside PHU, and other sources as heat sources. Through a heat exchange system, 65-degree Celsius hot water is produced, providing heating to areas such as the comprehensive building, diesel power area, office area, corridors, etc., in the park. This achieves heat recovery in the park, improving energy utilization efficiency. Moreover, a water treatment system is set up throughout the park to collect rainwater, wastewater, and sewage into a central collection pool. After centralized treatment, the processed water is used for irrigation of park plants and road cleaning, achieving rainwater and wastewater recycling, saving water, and being environmentally friendly.
Operation and maintenance optimization for energy reduction
Firstly, for AHU indirect evaporative cooling equipment and terminal air conditioning operation, a multi-machine form with frequency reduction is adopted. Based on changes in annual meteorological conditions and real-time temperature working conditions, dynamic parameter and operation mode optimization is performed to reduce the energy consumption of the units. Secondly, to avoid heat dissipation, ensure the airtightness of IT data rooms and various functional rooms, and use measures such as blanking plates, rubber strips, and brushes in rack empty spaces to optimize airflow organization reasonably. While ensuring the safe operation of equipment, dynamically control the opening and closing of equipment facilities such as diesel generator water jacket heating and pipeline trace heating based on environmental temperature, reducing energy consumption of valueless energy. Simultaneously, by raising the output voltage of UPS and reducing the end current, the goal is achieved to reduce line and equipment losses.
Leading the way in green computing for a "Dual Carbon" future
In the era of big data, computing power is a crucial new productivity factor. ZDATA has been committed to exploring ways to increase the proportion of new energy use, reduce traditional energy output, and thereby lower carbon emissions. To strengthen the hard power in energy demand management, ZDATA continuously upgrades the park's energy-saving system scheme. The project reserves access points for new energy and frequency-regulated energy storage facilities. It explores a new development path of "integrated generation, grid, load, and storage," creating a multi-element integration model for data center energy supply based on multi-energy complementarity, releasing more space for carbon reduction.
Computing power provides the basic driving force for the digital transformation of various industries. Balancing the synergy demands of computing power resources while achieving green and low-carbon operation of data centers has become a must-answer question in the process of digital economic development. In the future, ZDATA will continue to focus on accelerating economic and social digital transformation, intelligent upgrades, and integrated innovation. It will explore synchronized optimization methods for data centers, aiming for "high technology, high computing power, high energy efficiency, and high security." ZDATA will delve more deeply and meticulously into the carbon reduction potential at various stages and details of data centers. In the large-scale practice of the rapid rise of the digital economy, the company will continue to develop in the directions of diversified computing power, coordinated computing networks, green and low-carbon, and intelligent agility, providing strong support for consolidating the "new infrastructure foundation" of the digital era.
